Excerpt:

A senior constable has been suspended over photos taken of former North Melbourne coach Dean Laidley while he was in custody on stalking allegations.

A police “mugshot” of Mr Laidley and a photo taken through the glass wall of a police interview room in which he was being questioned were shared broadly on social media on Sunday.

Deputy Police Commissioner Shane Patton said the conduct of the officer who disseminated the photos was appalling, and it could result in a criminal charge that carries a possible two-year jail term.
